Cypress Creek Mitigation Efforts

The Harris County Flood Control District have been developing several stormwater detention basins in our community.

Flood damage reduction projects help reduce flooding risks for homes within the District, while other programs maintain our drainage investment, plan for the future, and turn stormwater detention basins and channels into community amenities and environmental assets.

TC Jester Stormwater Detention Basin

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • A four-compartment stormwater detention basin near the intersection of TC Jester Blvd and Cypresswood Dr
  • Designed to provide approximately 1200 acre-feet ' of stormwater storage capacity-roughly 1200 football fields covered in one foot of water

Batch 5: Cypress Creek Channel Rehabilitation and Stormwater Detention Basin

  • Channel rehabilitation to stabilize two segments of the main stem of Cypress Creek and minimize potential erosion
  • Two stormwater detention basins are under construction to mitigate downstream impacts

Westador Stormwater Detention Basin

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • A wet-bottom stormwater detention basin southeast of the intersection of Ella Blvd and Cypresswood Dr
  • Designed to hold approximately 207 acre-feet of stormwater-roughly 207 football fields covered in one foot of water
  • Expected to be completed in Q1 2027

Mercer Stormwater Detention Basin

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • A two-compartment stormwater detention basin near the intersection of Hardy Toll Rd and FM 1960
  • Designed to hold approximately 512 acre-feet of stormwater-roughly 512 football fields covered in one foot of water
  • Completed in Q1 2026
